Blood has many symbolic and religious associations. It is also sometimes the consequence of violent political protest or repression.

But in Thailand a group of protesters are using their own blood in political demonstrations “for democracy” and against the “dictatorship” of the present premier, Abhisit Vejjajiva. They want the return of the former prime minister, multi- millionaire Thaksin Shinawatra, who was deposed in a coup for alleged corruption. Experts in Thai culture are trying to understand.
